The CAA is composed of 18 members, including individuals representing CAA accredited programs, clinical practitioners who are employed full time in nonacademic settings, and 1 public member.
Interested in serving on the CAA? Each spring, a call for applications is posted to fill anticipated member vacancies on the CAA for the following year. All CAA positions—academic, practitioner, and public—are for 4-year terms beginning January 1. The CAA also recruits during that time candidates to apply to serve on its Nominating Committee, which is a 1-year term.
The CAA Nominating Committee annually presents a slate of candidates to fill anticipated academic and practitioner member vacancies for election by CAA-accredited programs. Program directors of CAA-accredited programs are notified by email in late August when the election opens, including a link to candidate statements to share with all faculty before the program’s vote is cast. Voting closes on September 15.
The CAA conducts full council meetings 3 times per year, conducted either at the ASHA National Office in Rockville, Maryland, or via a web-based platform, unless otherwise noted. The CAA may hold special decision meetings as needed, as well as monthly committee meetings.
CAA meetings, except for executive sessions as designated by the CAA, are open to individuals as observers. Individuals who are interested in observing a meeting must submit a request through email at accreditation@asha.org to the Council Chair at least 30 days prior to one of its regularly scheduled meetings.
